Our lab in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at the University of Illinois strives to advance the development of new functional polymeric materials for applications in transportation, energy, and health. For example, for self-healing and sensing polymers, it is important to investigate how exactly are macroscopic forces transmitted to the microscopic scale in heterogeneous materials. We are using computational and theoretical tools to gain a fundamental understanding of those microscopic properties and processes. This knowledge will help in designing new and improved polymeric materials.
